Health Insurance
The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is purchased at the time you enroll in classes, paid for via your tuition bill, and administered by the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Life.
Students who do not qualify for the Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan should review the Other Health Insurance Options webpage to learn more about other ways to obtain health insurance.
Long Term Disability (LTD) Insurance
There are some specialized long term disability insurance products administered by Benefits & Work/Life, which are available
to students in certain academic areas:
- School of Medicine Medical Students
This insurance is available only to Medical Students in the School of Medicine. It is fully student-paid and can be continued when you leave medical school.
- School of Dentistry Dental Students
This insurance is available only to Dental Students within the School of Dentistry. It is fully student-paid and can be continued when you leave dental school.
- School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program Students
This insurance is available only to students enrolled in the MEDEX Northwest Physician Assistant Program. It is fully student-paid and can be continued when you complete your program.
- Residents & Senior Fellows
This insurance is available only to Residents
and Senior Fellows in the UW Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing
and Pharmacy. It is fully individual-paid and can be continued
when your residency or fellowship ends.
