Being a Mentor

To be a mentor you must:

• Work at the UW and be willing to help others to succeed.
• Have an ongoing and active commitment to diversity
• Commit to a year long program
• Attend one day of training with your mentee
• Meet with your mentee at least once a month
• Set goals and expectations with the mentee
• Complete an exit survey

Benefits

Program benefits for the mentor include:

Improving leadership skills, learning about diversity in Financial Management,
learning new methods for effective communication, specialized training
and the satisfaction of helping another grow and succeed.
Volunteering to mentor demonstrates an exceptional commitment to Financial Management, but don’t feel bad if you are not initially matched with a mentee. The mentoring program has approximately three times as many mentors as mentees. It’s not personal, not all mentors are matched. Unmatched mentors remain in the mentor pool for future mentoring opportunities.
