Enterprise Information Management
The Data Management Committee (DMC) is charged with facilitating the usage and quality of enterprise information at the University of Washington. The DMC has several key projects underway including:
- The "Top 5 Questions" project to create UW-wide agreement on "institutional" answers to common questions Deans ask about their schools and colleges.
- The "Security Access and Roles" project to create user roles with defined security access rights to data contained in the Enterprise Data Warehouse
- The "Data Management Policies and Procedures" documentation project is aimed at establishing governance processes for institutional data
The goals of the Business Intelligence (BI) Tool and the Web Services Infrastructure Initiatives are to achieve excellence in information management in support of both academic and administrative departments of the University. These initiatives support Enterprise Information Management goals to:
- "Free the Data" in core UW systems which is hard to access and analyze
- Work with colleges and departments to create federated information management and service oriented architecture (SOA) strategies
- Meet institutional needs for making timely and informed decisions
- Build, maintain, and support necessary infrastructure, architecture, and data access tools
- Collaborate and provide oversight, training, and support to institutional analysts
- Integrate with and support emerging operational applications and systems
