Assistant Professor in Climate Science

The University of Washington Bothell (UWB) is looking for a dynamic teacher and researcher for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor rank to become one of the founding faculty members in our new Climate Science and Policy (CSP) undergraduate degree program.  The research focus should be in climate modeling or a related area.  Candidates must be able to teach courses in fundamental climate science, including climate modeling.  The CSP is a new degree program at UWB that seeks to educate a new generation of students to address the practical and policy issues surrounding climate change and development of a clean energy future.  The CSP degree program includes courses in chemistry, physics, climate modeling, energy and greenhouse gas emissions, human and ecological impacts, atmospheric chemistry, national and international climate policy and a senior capstone or internship.  This full-time, nine-month position will be effective September 16, 2010.

Our ideal candidate for this position will be experienced in working with nationally recognized climate modeling groups and be able to teach the essential physics, chemistry and related science to undergraduates in the CSP degree program.  Graduate teaching opportunities may also be possible through connections with the UW-Seattle.  The selected candidate should also demonstrate a commitment to, and plan for, developing a funded research program in climate science.  All University faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service. Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations.  A PhD is required prior to appointment.

The Bothell campus of the University of Washington is located approximately 20 miles northeast of Seattle.  UW Bothell serves approximately 2500 traditional and non-traditional students and also offers degrees in Business, Computing and Software Systems, Education, Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, Science & Technology and Nursing.  Since its opening in 1990, UWB has offered creative, interdisciplinary curricula, and a dynamic community of multicultural teaching.  It is presently engaged in planning for significant outreach to a wider region in the North Puget Sound and internationally, and anticipates continuing growth in programs and enrollment.  For more information on UW Bothell, visit the campus Web site at http://www.uwb.edu.
