Assistant Professor in Mathematics Education
The Education Program of the University of Washington Bothell, invites applications for a full-time, nine month, tenure-track position in Mathematics Education at the Assistant Professor rank. The appointment will become effective September 16, 2010.
Our new colleague will be expected to teach K-8 mathematics methods courses in the teacher certification program as well as other courses in the M.Ed. program, collaborate with colleagues on program design and institution building, advise graduate students, engage in university/community service, and maintain an active scholarly life that includes leading or participating in collaborative activities to secure external funding. Salary is nationally competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations. All University faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research and service.
We are seeking candidates who will have an earned doctorate (conferred by September 16, 2010) in mathematics education, curriculum and instruction or learning sciences with a strong mathematics background. The ideal candidate will be experienced in working with teachers to create excellent schools and classrooms for diverse students, will have participated in effective school/university partnerships and will have relevant K-8 teaching or supervisory experience. Additional qualifications include a demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the work place, the ability to work collaboratively and strong potential for scholarly contribution. Experience in special education is desirable.
The Bothell campus of the University of Washington is located approximately 20 miles northeast of Seattle. UW Bothell serves approximately 2500 traditional and non-traditional students and also offers degrees in Business, Computing and Software Systems, Education, Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, Nursing and Science & Technology. Since opening in 1990, UWB has offered creative, interdisciplinary curricula, and a dynamic community of multicultural teaching. It is presently planning for significant outreach to a wider region in the North Puget Sound and internationally, and anticipates continuing growth in programs and enrollment.
