Director of the Institute of Technology (Associate or Full Professor)
The University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) is accepting applications and nominations for a full-time, 12 month position as Director of the Institute of Technology, beginning July 1, 2010. This position is a direct report to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and works in close collaboration with other campus leadership.
The Institute was created in 2001 by a unique public-private partnership with a mission of providing students access to technology-oriented academic degree programs that would address the South Puget Sound's and the state's need for technically advanced professionals. The Institute offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Computing & Software Systems (CSS), Computer Engineering & Systems (CES) and Information Technology & Systems (ITS), as well as a BA in CSS, a minor in CSS, a minor in Applied Computing, and a Master of Science in CSS. The Institute currently has 14 tenure-track faculty, several full time lecturers and several staff supporting approximately 250 undergraduate and 40 graduate students. The Institute enjoys close relationships with high-tech industry and community colleges in the region.

The successful candidate will have experience in academic leadership, possess a capacity for strategic planning and assessment, and the skills needed to build and engage community partnerships, particularly with industry and community colleges in the region. Ideal candidates should have a commitment to developing emerging and interdisciplinary programs. Successful candidates will also possess expertise in teaching and research appropriate to their rank.
An earned Ph.D. in Computing, Information, Engineering or related fields is required. Candidates must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
