The University of Washington Bothell seeks a dynamic educator to serve as the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center. The appointment will be made at the Senior Lecturer rank for a three year, full-time, academic year appointment based on an eleven and a half month (9+2.5). The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) at the University of Washington Bothell is catalyst and incubator for innovations in pedagogy, and provides consultation, support, and resources for faculty members. The Director of the TLC takes an active role in faculty development, support for student success, and assessment of student learning, in both formal and informal learning environments. The Director collaborates with and supports faculty who are engaged in the scholarship of teaching and learning. The Director is expected to pursue external funding in support of innovative TLC initiatives, including programs focused on assessment, pedagogy, diversity, and learning technologies. The Director of the TLC also oversees the Writing Center, Quantitative Skills Center and Community Partnerships Office. The Director of the TLC reports to the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and serves on Academic Council and the Chancellor’s Cabinet.
This position supports the core mission of the University of Washington Bothell, which is to provide access to excellence in higher education through the provision of creative curricula, interdisciplinary teaching and research, and a dynamic community of multicultural learning. The Director of the Teaching and Learning Center is responsible for marshalling the resources needed by faculty who are engaged in innovative pedagogy. This position is essential to realizing our vision of providing transformational learning for students.
The TLC is part of UW Bothell Academic Services, which includes Information Technologies (IT) and the Library. The Director of the TLC shares leadership responsibilities for Academic Services and work closely with the Assistant Vice Chancellor of IT and the Director of the Library.
The Bothell campus of the University of Washington is located approximately 20 miles northeast of Seattle. UW Bothell serves approximately 2500 students with programs in Business, Computing and Software Systems, Education, Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, Nursing, and Science and Technology. Since its opening in 1990, UW Bothell has developed a reputation for offering creative, interdisciplinary curricula, and a dynamic community of multicultural teaching. It is presently engaged in planning for significant outreach to a wider region in the North Puget Sound and internationally, and anticipates continuing growth in programs and enrollment. Successful candidates will have an earned Ph.D. and experience in innovative curricular initiatives and can provide evidence of an ability to build collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and campus constituents; and a commitment to support and enhance learning for diverse populations.
Appointment will be made to the academic program most appropriate to the teaching, research, and service interests of the successful candidate.
