Assistant Professor of Social Studies Education

The University of Washington Bothell (UWB) invites applications and nominations for a full-time, academic year, tenure line position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Education Program.  This appointment will become effective on September 16, 2010.

We are seeking candidates who will have an earned doctorate (will consider ABD if degree will be conferred prior to September 16, 2010) in Social Studies Education, Curriculum and Instruction with emphasis in Social Studies Education or related field. The ideal candidates will have evidence of successful and relevant teaching and/or supervisory experience in Social Studies Education at the middle, secondary, and/or university grades/levels, improving Social Studies teacher education, preparing all teachers to educate students with disabilities, and leading or supporting school-university partnerships that support simultaneous renewal of P-12 schools and teacher education. Additional qualifications include a demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the work place the ability to work collaboratively; experience in curriculum development; and potential for scholarly contribution. Our new colleague will be expected to teach secondary social studies methods courses, pursue nationally and internationally recognized scholarship in Social Studies Education and general areas of curriculum and instruction; participate in/lead collaborative activities to secure external funding or lead funded research initiatives; lead/collaborate with others on integrating scholarship and community/professional enhancement, and provide supervision of field experiences. Salary is nationally competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations.  All University faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research and service.

The Bothell campus of the University of Washington is located approximately 20 miles northeast of Seattle.  UW Bothell serves approximately 2500 traditional and non-traditional students and also offers degrees in Business, Computing and Software Systems, Education, Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, Nursing and Science & Technology.  Since opening in 1990, UWB has offered creative, interdisciplinary curricula, and a dynamic community of multicultural teaching.  It is presently planning for significant outreach to a wider region in the North Puget Sound and internationally, and anticipates continuing growth in programs and enrollment.  For more information on UW Bothell, visit the campus Web site at http://www.uwb.edu.  For additional information on the Education Program, please visit the Program’s website at http://www.uwb.edu/education
