The University of Washington, Seattle, and College of Education invite applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor rank in the Area of Educational Psychology. This position will begin September 2010 and requires a doctoral degree in School Psychology and license in Psychology or license eligibility. The successful candidate will have expertise in academic assessment of culturally and linguistically diverse learners, effective intervention strategies for teaching and working with children in urban school settings, and expertise in consultation with emphasis on response-to-intervention approaches for students with disabilities.  The highly desirable candidate will also have expertise in quantitative research methodologies and a history of generating funding for research. 

The School Psychology Program at the University of Washington is an APA accredited Ph.D. program in School Psychology and a NASP approved M. Ed. program in School Psychology. The program seeks individuals who share its emphasis on interdisciplinary, multicultural, and ecological approaches to research and training. We seek a colleague that will help produce scientist-practitioners who are skilled in response-to-intervention, consultation, and promoting the educational success of children with diverse backgrounds. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

Major Responsibilities
The candidate’s overall responsibilities would include: (a) developing/continuing a strong research agenda and grant writing; and (b) teaching and advising master’s and doctoral level students. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to contribute to the program through research, teaching, and mentoring students.  

Develop and carry out a rigorous research agenda, engaging actively with other faculty in the development and elaboration of research addressing such issues as cognitive abilities, academic achievement and mental health in culturally diverse school settings.

In collaboration with faculty in special education and educational psychology, develop and teach graduate courses that prepare school psychologists and related school personnel and demonstrate a commitment to innovative, research-based academic achievement and mental health practice in urban communities and schools.

Participate in the design and maintenance of performance-based assessments aligned with NASP to inform program improvement and renewal.

Contribute to the development and implementation of a strategic process for recruiting underrepresented groups into school psychology.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctorate in School Psychology or a highly related field.
Demonstrated success or strong potential for successful university teaching that displays enthusiasm for the field, a successful publication history that is aligned with the changing nature of school psychologists’ roles in schools.

Demonstrated success or potential for strong productivity in research, grant writing and scholarship. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to the College of Education’s technology goals by being experienced in new technologies pertinent to the field.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a practicing school psychologist that reflects a belief in culturally and linguistically responsive collaboration and prevention.

Grant funded research.

A strong belief in academic and mental health services that are collaborative, preventive, and broadly defined to foster the social, emotional and cognitive competence of all children and adolescents.

Employment Conditions
This is a nine-month academic year appointment on a full-time basis. Opportunity for summer teaching is also available. Salary is commensurate with qualifications. The University of Washington offers a full benefits package.
