The National Center on Accessible Information Technology in Education
What is the National Council on Disability (NCD), and how are they involved in accessible electronic and information technology?
The National Council on Disability (NCD) is an independent federal agency making recommendations to the president and Congress on issues affecting Americans with disabilities. NCD is composed of fifteen members appointed by the president and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
The NCD has written several position papers related to information technology accessibility, including the following:
- Application of the ADA to the Internet and the Worldwide Web (July 10, 2003)
- The Accessible Future (June 21, 2001)
- Access to Multimedia Technology by People with Sensory Disabilities (March 13, 1998)
- Access to the Information Superhighway and Emerging Information Technologies by People with Disabilities (September 30, 1996)
