How can I locate a scientist with a disability similar to that of a student in my class?
Some Internet resources discuss famous scientists with disabilities. Red Disability's Science & Technology web page talks about Alexander Graham Bell, Albert Einstein, Henry Ford, and other scientists from the past. There are also resources with information about living scientists who can be contacted with questions about educating students with disabilities and working with individuals with disabilities, including the creation of accessible equipment and labs. For example, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Project on Science, Technology, and Disability publishes the Resource Directory of Scientists and Engineers with Disabilities, which offers information about professionals working in a variety of science and engineering disciplines.
Educators may also contact scientists featured in Working Chemists with Disabilities, a publication of the American Chemical Society Committee on Chemists with Disabilities. The publication breaks down information by regional educational institutions, government agencies, and private institutions.
