Advancing Deaf & Hard of Hearing in Computing
Advancing Deaf & Hard of Hearing in Computing (ADHHC) is a project of The Alliance for Access to Computing Careers (AccessComputing). A goal of the project is to increase the participation of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing in computing fields.
Project Goals
- Raise the bar for deaf and hard of hearing in computing fields
- Establish UW Summer Academy for deaf and hard of hearing high school seniors and college freshmen and sophomores (18 and over) interested in exploring careers in computing fields
- Establish e-Mentoring Community for deaf and hard of hearing scholars in computing fields
- Develop Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community of Practice (dhhcop)
- Encourage collaborations with other programs
- Develop the Saturday Computing Experience, a program that will introduce local (Seattle area) deaf and hard of hearing students, 15 to 18 years of age, to computers and computer programming, learning about concepts and technologies, using project-based learning strategies.

Collaborate with Project Staff
- Refer deaf & hard of hearing students with skills in computing, mathematics and science fields
- Refer deaf & hard of hearing professionals in computer science, computer technology, and information science, research and technology fields
- Spread the word about the Summer Academy, e-mentoring program and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community of Practice
- Suggest names of deaf & hard of hearing students for paid internships
